DECORATING IDEAS for a SIMPLE BLACK COMFORTER

BLACK BEDDING SHEETS COMFORTER SETS

GO HERE FOR MORE!

While looking for a sophisticated black comforter set for an apartment bedroom, I was just about to throw my hands up in defeat when I came up with the idea of taking an affordable black bed in a bag that included everything down to the black bed skirt and turning it into something fantastic using sheets!

Here’s the story of this black and white teen bedroom decorating debacle.

So far the college girl had been a hard sell on every design that I had presented to her. I thought that the bedroom decor was going to be a slam-dunk by the way that her eyes lit up when she saw pictures of a bedroom decorated with zebra print bedding and accessories until her friend who was looking at the photo album with her said that some preteen or tween kid she knew had a similar comforter set in her bedroom. After that untimely comment, bedding with zebra stripes was out.

With my deadline creeping closer with each passing day and the budget restrictions that I had to work with, I was under extreme pressure to come up with something inexpensive yet unique and cool enough to pass inspection. I began to feel like I was working for a cash strapped Paris Hilton when the plan for a perfect set of black and white teen bedding (with a solid black comforter as requested) fell into my lap.

The black bedding set that I had shown her previously was rejected because she didn’t want to fuss with a duvet. She said that even though a duvet cover was washable, it was too difficult to arrange on the bed in a neat and orderly way. Plus, she preferred fabric with a woven pattern or design. The customer is always right, so I agreed and went back to square one. Imagine how thrilled I was to locate a black bed in a bag set with a diamond pattern.

All that was left was to find a cheap set of crisp, white cotton sheets with a high thread count. I picked them up in an online bedding auction for a song and to make them look expensive and completely unique for this diva who demanded that her bed resemble none other; I had the head of the flat sheet monogrammed in a beautiful script.

I had the monogram on the white sheet sewed in black thread. I wondered how scrumptious it would have looked if she had selected pink sheets and a black comforter or bedding set. Think how incredibly stylish a set of hot pink satin (or cotton) sheets with a girl’s initials monogrammed in an elegant center medallion would be! It would be perfect for an upscale French or Parisian style of décor.

A solid black comforter and pink sheets might not be the ideal color scheme for this young lady but you can bet I filed this bedroom decorating idea away for future projects.

PALM TREE BEDDING and COMFORTERS

GO HERE FOR MORE!

As always tropical islands are all the rage.

Palm tree bedding

, decorations and accessories are always appropriate no matter how urban or landlocked your geographical location happens to be. Keep a little bit of your island vacation allowed long after the cruise is over and they returned to reality and everyday life are eminent.

A young lady once told me that the only reason she didn't want to consider what she called Palm tree decor was that she was no fan of an olive green color scheme. The idea of waking up each day with visions of coconut palms with lush green leaves just left her cold. While it was difficult for me to understand why anyone would object to what I consider a natural layout, especially if you love sand and surf as much as this teenage girl did, it presented a challenge to design a bedroom with a funky, fun Hawaiian island look that did away with as much green as possible.

Need I tell you that palm tree comforters that aren't decorated with green fronds are relatively hard to come by? After discarding one palm tree bed in a bag set after another, I hit pay dirt!
I had in my hands a set of palm tree print bedding in a vintage Hawaiian theme with all the colors of the sunset and wonder of all wonders; very little green. The leaves had dark, ivy green outlines, but the centers were filled in with rose red, azure blue and lilac. Every color that you would never expect to find in palm tree bedding was displayed on this comforter along with hula girls and a sprinkling of other motifs like tiki huts and volcanoes.

As I stood there amazed at my good fortune the thought hit me that I had the idea that my teenage girl had no sense of what was fashionable or stylish in saying that she wanted palm tree bedding in essence without the palm trees when in reality I was the person in the wrong. I not only failed to listen to my customer’s vision of what she wanted in the way of palm tree bedding, but neglected to open my mind to new possibilities that would allow me to explore a funky, new kind of palm tree comforter rather than the traditional styles that I had used so many times before in adult bedrooms.

I will post pictures of this funky, fun tropical teen palm tree clearance bed in a bag comforter set when it's completed so keep checking back.

DECORATING with TINKERBELL BEDDING and COMFORTER SETS

Tinkerbell comforter sets have recently come into their own on the teen bedroom decorating scene. If your daughter is a fan of Tinkerbell (and how could anyone who has ever watched Peter Pan not be?) she just might allow you to decorate her room in a fairy theme. You could take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity to display your collectible figurines and Peter Pan movie posters!

Pull out all that memorabilia that has been stuck in a trunk since you were a preteen and decorate the walls with Tinkerbell decals and wall stickers. Waiting for the perfect background that would display them to their full potential has now come to pass. If you feel that your young lady won’t appreciate vintage decorations no matter how precious they are to you, the answer may be to compromise with a set of modern Disney's Tinkerbelle bedding. Perhaps the combination of an upscale comforter set with the collectibles will satisfy her that your ideas are not old fashioned.

Tinkerbell comforter sets are not just for toddlers and little kids! There are Tinkerbell teen comforters that are the ultimate in sophistication and style that forego the traditional children’s color palette that includes every color in the rainbow and then some. Many teenage bedding sets that are responsible for transitioning a bedroom design for a toddler to one that will please a preteen limit the range of colors to a flashy few and pink and black Tinkerbell bedding and comforter sets are a perfect example. Every tween should have her bedroom decorated with fairies at least once before she gets too old to believe, but to slip the magical creatures past her critical eye, you may have to modernize portions of your proposed design to fit the fashion savvy girl’s decorating ideas for Tinkerbell bedding and fairy bedroom decor for teens.

UNIQUE SHOWER CURTAINS

GO HERE!

I am told that I have been remiss in not including shower curtains as part of my teen and tween blog’s decorating ideas. As of today, consider this a free home decorating magazine that covers both bedrooms and baths that your preteen as well as your college girl will love.

As of today, I plan to rectify that oversight and make good on my promise to my teenage niece that brought this to my attention. I plan to share some decorative tips and advice that includes decorating the bathrooms that teen girls spend so much time in rather than to focus solely on the decor of girl’s boudoirs.

Adjoining baths and showers often open directly into the bedroom as we know and we certainly want funky bathroom accessories that reflect the colors and designs found on the bedding sets. And just as in the bedroom, the best place to start is with the decorative item that has the largest footprint. In the bedroom; nine times out of ten the best place to start the makeover is with the comforter set. Barring the tween’s request for a large mural or a particular style of area rug the bed covers the largest area. In the bathroom; the same goes for a shower curtain.

And I have every intention of finding UNIQUE shower curtains that will blend with fashionable decorating styles, patterns and colors with matching window curtains, rugs and other stuff that will make your bathroom just as stylish as the rest of the home.

So, what kind of stuff are we talking about here? What’s so nifty about a large piece of water resistant vinyl whose purpose is to keep the water in the tub? The world of funky, fun, novelty shower curtains goes way beyond keeping the bathroom mat from getting soaked with soap and water; it gives your shower a theme and a personality of its own. And the really cool thing is that they are so cheap that you can completely change your bathroom’s décor without spending a bundle.

VINYL or FABRIC SHOWER CURTAINS

Many novelty shower curtains are made of vinyl. Fabrics have come a long way since the days of duck cloth or canvas. Fabrics are beginning to come in the same bright, bold colors that have traditionally been so much more vivid in vinyl and the great thing is that you can easily toss them in the laundry to get the shampoo and soap that you splash all over the place when you shower.

PRINTS and PATTERNS

Kids shower curtains with pictures of their favorite cartoon characters or children’s television star printed on them are a great birthday gift that will tickle the kids and make mom smile, too! If Mickey Mouse or Sponge Bob won’t exactly fit with your decorating ideas or if your teen thinks that she is too old for such nonsense, there are funky polka dot shower curtains or dragonfly shower curtains for a more feminine look.

I made a commitment to my sweet little niece that I would start to branch out into the recommendations of some cute, unique shower curtains and bathroom decorating ideas, and as she is such a loyal fan of the funky, fun comforters and shower curtains on my teen decorating website, I’m going to make good on my promise.

FUNKY STRIPES and POLKA DOTS A PURPLE, PINK and TURQUOISE COLOR SCHEME

stripes polka dots teenage girls bedding lime green purple

GO HERE FOR MORE!

Teenage bedding that features the popular combo of funky stripes and polka dots needs very little in the way of additional bedroom decorations to achieve a cool and colorful teen bedroom. The fanciful designs will tickle the fancy of young girls and keep the mood as frivoulous and fun as memories on the sandy beaches of summer late into the fall when she heads out for the college dorm room. I just love it because it’s cute, bright and lots of fun!

Some might fall in love with a duvet set simply because of the cute matching throw pillows or a contemporary lamp sporting a coordinating lamp shade or even a set of inexpensive tab-top curtains but what never fails to catch my eye is the fetching color combination. Purple, lime green turquoise, hot pink and white are what makes decorating ideas for teen girls bedrooms fun. Once funky stripes and polka dots girls bedding sets are tossed into the mix along with a pink shag area rug on the floor and lime green curtains as window treatments and it's far too cool a proposition for me to resist.

String some patio lights over the headboard, around the crown molding or across the top of the window treatments and throw a fluffy flokati rug on the floor with some huge faux fur throw pillows and I’m happy as a clam and I'm certain that teenage girls will love the bedding and bedroom decorations, too!
