How to Choose the Best Teen Bedroom Sets

GO HERE FOR MORE!

A teen girl’s bedroom furniture and accessories are what make the difference between a run of the mill uninspired space and a funky, interesting and fun place to entertain and impress her friends. There are many fashionable designs out there and rather than make your bedroom makeover easier; the large selection might actually make your job more complicated. For instance, your tween might adore the Swedish modern dresser and then fall in love with a feminine canopy bed complete with carved cupids or angels flying across the headboard.

Before you set a date to take your daughter shopping for her stylish bedroom furniture, it would be advisable to pick up some teen magazines and see how her favorite teen celebrity’s bedroom is decorated. Maybe you can get some decorating ideas from the photographs regarding themes and color schemes.

BEDS FOR TEENS

The bed may be where you start this adventure into finding the perfect furniture for your teen girl. What you will be looking at is whether the funky headboard or the wild bedding set that's the standout and you should point this out to your child. When she screams and shouts that a particular bed is cute and to die for, you should ask exactly which part of the bed is tickling her fancy. Has the actual headboard and footboard caught her eye or is the bedding set?

SIZE

Take an inventory of the actual square footage and size of your teen girl’s bedroom. If you are decorating a small twelve by twelve bedroom with standard eight foot ceilings, that gorgeous set of bedroom furniture with a king size bed, an armoire, double dresser and two matching night stands that looked fantastic in the store may be disappointing once you get it home. Wall to wall bedroom furniture is only going to make your child’s room look tiny and cramped.
A better option would be a twin or double bed with one night stand and a tall chest of drawers to free up some floor space and give the visual impression that the room is bigger than it is.

STORAGE

Teenage girls love stuff. Stuffed animals, pompoms and photographs will clutter her bedroom to no end if not controlled. The top of the bureau may not have enough room to house all of her friends framed photographs and the teddy bears and bunny rabbits left over from her childhood, so while you’re shopping for your teenage girl’s bedroom furniture pick out some wall shelves that match to catch the overflow.

If lack of floor space isn’t an issue, you might want to add a table and chairs for a conversation area or a desk with a lamp so that your kitchen table will stay free of books and the contents of her backpack.

THE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN MOTHER AND HER TEENAGE GIRLS

Keep your daughter in the loop. Bounce your favorite teen bedroom decorating ideas off each other and be open to what’s popular with the kids even if it sets your teeth on edge.

MAKE YOUR TEEN GIRLS BEDROOM WALL POP!

GO HERE FOR MORE!

I was about to come to the conclusion that if I wanted to decorate the walls in big, bold dots I would have to paint the polka dots on the walls myself. There are pros and cons with this process. The upside would be that you could paint the dots to fit the size of the room which is good in small bedrooms. You could use bright, funky colors but scale them down so they wouldn't overpower the space. The downside is that if you are renting an apartment or implementing your decorating ideas for a girl's dorm room painting is pretty permanent.

The answer to this decorating problem would be to use wall stickers! Reusable and temporary wall decorations have their place in this commitment phobic, mobile world that we live in and I'm crazy for them! Decorate the bedroom walls and if your teen decides she wants to give the furniture arrangment a makeover, so what? Simply peel and stick your decals where they will look the best!

Chocolate and aqua window treatments and bedding sets would have been out of the question earlier in your teenage girl's years. While the modern decorating and color scheme rules have been relaxed by miles, dark browns and shades of blue in the not so distant past were classic ways to decorate a boy's bedroom (read: territory).

The door has opened for the sophisticated teen girl to enjoy this cute color combination. The only question is whether she would prefer her chocolate brown and aqua teenage bed in a bag comforter sets and decorative bedding accessories to have a fabric design of circles, squares or forego the geometric patterns completely in favor of solid colors or crisp, even stripes.

Overweight the bedroom design with cool shades of aqua or deep, dark brown colors depending on the natural lighting of the girl's bedroom. For instance, if there is a northern exposure, valances would be my choice of window treatment over full length curtains or draperies to make the most use of sunlight. Another decorating tip for a poorly lit room would be to use light colored (flokati or funky shag?) area rugs or floor coverings rather than dark rugs that would soak up all the light.

FURRY, FUNKY UPHOLSTERED HEADBOARDS

The queston of how to make your own upholstered headboards came in some time ago. We were fortunate enough to be able to locate a wonderful DIY video with instructions on how to upholster with any number of cool fabrics that would be helpful in creating the funky teen decor of your fantasies.

There are many ways to guarantee that upholstery will be comfortable. You can do a tufting technique and over stuff it like a big stationery pillow, but the materials that you choose for your custom designed upholstered headboards plays a big part in the cozy factor of your girl's room. If the fabric is tough and hard as nails, no amount of filler or stuffing will compensate for the harsh texture.

Headboards are an excellent place to go wild and make a decorative statement. There are so many styles that are trendy and fashionable from mirrors to message boards. They can reach from the floor to the ceiling and be just as wide as your walls will allow. Don't restrain yourself; go crazy! There are few decorating rules and regularions for tweens, teens and pre teens bedrooms. These years are the most free spirited times in a girl's life and pink, faux fur covered headboards will be just as much at home in a stylish, Bohemian bedroom as it is with a sweet, polka dot bedding set and a gauzy white canopy designed in an ultra-feminine style.
