SKULL BEDDING

Pink and Black Skull Bedding and Comforter Set

GO HERE FOR MORE!

Wouldn’t you know that I’d find this set of skull bedding just after I spent an entire afternoon of my time convincing a teenage girl who had her heart set on doing the Goth bedroom thing that the gothic trend may have run its course? Not being one to easily admit to being completely and totally off base, even I have to admit that this feminine skull and crossbones bedding set is so cute that it just might breathe some enthusiasm into a reluctant decorator such as myself who was never really able to wrap her head around the dark side of bedroom décor.

Skull and crossbones window curtains

As a teenage girl the idea of sharing a room with a skull comforter would have made my head spin like something out of The Exorcist. It was part of my bedtime ritual to have my mom or dad check under the bed and in the closet to be certain nothing evil had slipped in while I was away at school. To wake up in a bed decorated with grinning skulls and roses would have put me way too far out of my comfort zone.

Either I’ve become more valiant and brave as an adult or my tastes have changed because I find that this unusual set of pink and black skull bedding speaks my language. Pink and gray rooms have always been appealing to me so I may have to re-schedule an appointment with the girl who so adamantly tried to change my mind about decorating her bedroom and see if we might be able to reach a middle ground.

PINK AND BLACK DECORATING

Pink and Black decorating ideas

GO HERE FOR MORE

Pink and black decorating is going to be a blast this spring! Sure, we’ve had the pink and black comforters and comforter sets around for a few years. But just when you think we have seen all that there is to this winning color combination the manufacturers tickle us well, pink, and show us that they still have a few tricks up their collective sleeves.

modern retro art deco table lamp

It’s obvious that they have reached back into days gone by to get the job done. But there’s nothing wrong with reviving old school glamour, sophistication or for that matter a little old fashioned collegiate decor and performing a little pink and black decorating using argyle print fabrics.

Pink and black wall message board

If you think that patterns taken from old fashioned knee socks that golfers use to wear pulled up to the bottom of their knickers that we have only seen in black and white films from your great-grandmother’s era can’t be inspirational; think again my dear. An attractive pattern is what it is. And what it is when you put that classic argyle graphic together with funky, modern colors in a pink and black bedroom for teenage girls is unbelievably striking.

So how do we successfully eliminate the image of old golfers and create an argyle bedroom design that is more in keeping with what teenage girls want for the bedrooms?

First off, don’t use those floor length argyle curtains. The window treatments and pink and black comforter set together in one small space is too much. Use a topper or a valance with shades, sheers, beads or blinds. Too much argyle or plaid will blow your pink and black decorating plans for your bedroom sky high.

Think chic, black and art deco or retro without going vintage in accessorizing this room. The print on your bedding set and curtains is enough. A retro black lamp on the bedside table and a pink message board decorated with black ribbons (and maybe some feathers around the frame) will repeat the X pattern of the argyle bedding without being too busy. And remember that an argyle bedroom is just one of the areas where we can put our black and pink decorating skills to work.

HAWAIIAN BEDROOM DECOR

Hawaiian bedroom decor themes hibiscus bedding comforter set

GO HERE FOR MORE

A surefire way to get your teenage girl’s approval on Hawaiian bedroom decor is to use a Hibiscus bed set
that includes more than your classic tropical print. I know you thought that she would adore the wild colors of the flowers and the tropical, floral print fabric. But there’s something about most flowers that turns some teens off. They either think that it’s too babyish a design for a young lady of their mature age or they perceive floral print fabrics are TOO mature ala her grandmother’s parlor wallpaper kind of mature if you catch my drift.

If you feel the need to include Hibiscus comforters in your Hawaiian bedroom decor, you are going to have to be slick about it. I hate to tell you that the wild Hibiscus bed in a bag is probably not going to pass muster. The pretty tropical print fabric alone is not going to do the trick.

The key is to custom design your hibiscus bed set to appeal to kids rather than an adult. Keep the hibiscus comforter but toss the boring, solid color bed skirt, sheets and window treatments into the linen closet for another day.

Instead, buy a set of lime green polka dot bedding and sheets or a set of hot pink striped sheets with some extra flat sheets to use for mixing and matching. Use the bold printed sheets under your hibiscus comforter and use the extra flat sheets that you bought to sew some lime green polka dot curtains or at the very least some tie backs and a dust ruffle for the bed.

You will be amazed at how much more interesting your Hawaiian bedroom decor will be once you put these easy, affordable decorating ideas to work. The results are that you get to use the hibiscus bedding that you wanted and your daughter gets to enjoy one of the coolest Hawaiian bedroom decor on on the block.

BOHEMIAN BEDROOM DECOR

bohemian bedding bohomian bedroom decorating style ideas

GO HERE FOR MORE

When I have a request for bohemian style decorating, the urge to lecture my customer on the basics of bohemian decor tends to overtake me. Unlike many other styles, the eclectic hodge podge that as a whole gives that look that so many believe is simple and easy to duplicate, can be a difficult undertaking.

bohemian lantern beaded boho lighting light fixture

For one thing, the boho look can’t be purchased in the home and garden section of your local bed and bath shop. In order to successfully organize the layers that it requires there must be multiple trips to flea markets, consignment and my personal favorite junk stores where the owner has a hand in the selection of everything from knickknacks to area rugs that have seen better days.

An even better way to approach bohemian style decorating, especially if you are on a budget, is to raid your very own attic or granny’s trunk. There you may find treasures beyond your wildest dreams including bohemian bedding that tells a story. It’s my belief that it is the story behind each decorative item that makes for a unique room design that is impossible for another decorator to duplicate.

Is it possible to buy a brand new set of bed linens labeled as bohemian bedding and decorate a bedroom in a manner that is esthetically pleasing and attractive? Of course, any bedroom with the right balance of color can be made visually pleasing. But will it have the identical personality that drew you to the charm of your friend’s shabby chic apartment when she decorated with an old bohemian bedspread and vintage items that she hand picked over time? That's what's is so unusual and challenging about bohemian style decorating. It takes time and thought.

If your teenage girl has a bohemian style bedroom in mind, this is an opportunity for the two of you to have a blast while you search for bohemian bedding in a cedar chest that hasn't been opened in years. What a wonderful chance to share family stories all the while discovering cool stuff to use in her boho chic bedroom decor.

CHANDELIER STICKERS, DECALS and WALLPAPER APPLIQUES

Chandelier stickers decals wallpaper cutouts appliques

GO HERE FOR MORE

Is your ceiling too low for a low hanging light fixture? Chandelier stickers won’t provide much light, but they don’t use any electricity How eco-friendly is that? And there is no danger of your tall friends bumping their heads on their way through the room.

pink and black argyle sorority seventeen bedding
Plus, these easy to use decals provide an unexpected decorative detail to rooms where a ceiling mounted crystal chandelier might be too large and out of scale in a small bedroom.

WHERE TO USE THEM

The charming part of using removable, vinyl chandelier stickers for decorating the walls of your teenage girl’s bedroom is that when she rearranges her furniture, the decals can be relocated anyplace that there is a bit of blank wall space that needs decorating. As often as teens and preteens change their mind, this is a very good characteristic for bedroom wall decorations.

In a large bedroom you might hang one on each side of an armoire or over each of the bedside tables with a large painting or art print in the center over the head of the bed. My favorite application for removable, vinyl chandelier stickers is over the headboard of the bed. In a small bedroom, the level of sophistication that the silhouette adds to the decor is amazing.

WHAT STYLE OF DECOR

I have used chandelier decals and wallpaper cutouts in bedrooms with black and white polka dot bedding, damask bedding sets as well as funky, shabby chic bedrooms. The appliques come in various colors, but my favorite combination so far has been black when used on a freshly painted tan or camel colored bedroom wall over a black lacquered headboard. You could almost imagine the faintest glow of light reflected on crystal beads only better.

BLACK, WHITE, RED BEDDING - MODERN FASHION BEDDING FOR GIRLS

black white and red teenage girls bedding

GO HERE FOR MORE

Bold graphics, high heels and French design; you can have it all with a black, white and red bedding set if you shop carefully. There are so many different styles that will support this color scheme and tastes change as often as stylish teenage girls like to change their outfits and shoes, but one thing that will remain constant is the dramatic contrast that some color combinations create.

Eiffel Tower Wall Stickers, Decals, Clings and Appliques

Patterns, fabrics and prints come and go in popularity. One minute toile is trendy, the next minute damask is all the rage. And in the blink of an eye that comforter set that you convinced your mom you would love forever looks as old fashioned as last year's sunglasses.

There's no stopping the ever changing landscape of what's considered to be modern fashion bedding. The key is not to be dictated by what a designer says is cute, but by choosing a black, white and red bedding set with a look that you will enjoy at least until next season.

IDEAS for INTERESTING WINDOW TREATMENTS for TEENAGE GIRLS BEDROOMS

Ideas for interesting window treatments for teenage girls bedrooms

GO HERE FOR MORE

Professional decorators or moms who are taking the DIY approach have to be ready with ideas for interesting window treatments when decorating a teenage girl’s bedroom. What girls want is for the sun to be blocked so they can get their beauty sleep early in the day and privacy from prying eyes during the evening hours. And they want something unique and eye catching rather than the same blinds and valances they have had since they were little kids.

In my experience, tweens and preteens right on up to girls on their way out of the house and into their college dorm rooms will turn up their cute little noses at most traditional pinch pleated curtains and reject them as being to stodgy and ordinary. The key to decorating the bedroom windows in a style that gets the approval of the little lady of the house is to have your design board loaded with unique ideas for interesting window treatments before she cops the attitude that you have no sense of what’s stylish and fashionable.

FABRIC

Include some fabric samples along with your ideas for interesting window treatments
. An exact fabric match to her bedding might strike her as too "matchy matchy" and boring. Match the color, but get inventive with the material. Faux fur, satin or sparkling beaded curtains will have a better chance at getting a thumb’s up than the curtain panels that came in her bed in a bag set.

STYLE

If privacy is an issue, opaque curtain panels will be more acceptable than blinds so long as you play your cards right. Jazz up floor length panels with unusual tie backs and curtain rods. If blinds are already in place and there’s a need to keep them; camouflage them with layers of valances, curtain panels that have been decorated with beads or trim.

PERSONALIZING THE WINDOW TREATMENTS

Once you have made decisions regarding color, fabric and style the fun will really begin. Personalize your ideas for unique and interesting window treatments for your teenage girl’s bedroom with beading, themed decorations or feather trim. I’ve seen more than one pair of curtains successfully recycled with a few yards of ribbon and marabou feathers and the results were fabulous.

Teens may not have developed a taste for luxury this early in their lives, but they do have a sense of style and a need for function in their window treatments. As soon as the basic layout of the bedroom has been decided it’s a good idea to be prepared for that stage of the decorating project.

What kind of bedding set blends with purple zebra, lime green and salmon pink? Black and white polka dot bedding, of course! There you have it, girlfriend black and white polka dot bed sets are a superb way to kickstart your teen's bedroom design. Teenage girls’ bedrooms are going dotty in a big way and who can blame them if they swoon over the fantastic decorating ideas that you are going to present to them using cool combinations of black and white polka dot fabrics in their bedroom layout.

The idea of having pink and lime green as a background for black and white polka dot bedding is enough to make a tween swoon. Throw in neck rolls and lamp shades trimmed in flashy marabou feathers to match the iron bed that you painted with flat black paint and your teenage girl who considers it totally unsophisticated to show emotion will break training.

Bedroom wall paint ideas for black and white polka dot bedding sets may range from painting your own dots to using stickers to make the decor as dotted as you please. But I like the idea of taping off a painted strip at eye level and painting the taped off area in a wild color that will complement the main wall color. Then taking a small round sponge, begin stamping polka dots evenly spaced on the edges where the main wall color meets the accent color. You will be amazed at how professional these bedroom wall painting ideas look when you are done.

REVERSIBLE PURPLE AND LIME GREEN COMFORTERS

kids purple and lime green comforters sets polka dots stripes

GO HERE FOR MORE

Are you struggling with the decision on whether to buy your kid’s purple and lime green comforters with green and purple stripes or with polka dots? What if I told you that you can successfully use both and still get a cool teenage bedroom for your girls?

That’s right, mixing colors and patterns is all the rage and at the moment the design combination of choice is stripes and polka dots and one of the most stylish color combos would have to be iridescent purple and lime green. The shade of purple that you prefer can range from light lavender so pale as to hardly suggest the slightest hint of color to a deep purple so dark that the light has to be perfect to verify that the fabric is not dyed black. So long as lime green is in the mix, I’m on board.

When your daughter is in her preteen or tween years, kids’ lime green comforter sets with pictures of their favorite teen rock band or cartoon characters might be the
purple and lime green comforters
set of choice. But older girls seem to prefer something a little more sophisticated. The colors get darker and the pictures of teen idols disappear and are replaced by solid colors and silky satin fabrics. All the more reason to enjoy those purple and green comforters covered in funky flowers, stripes and polka dots for a few years before sex appeal becomes an issue.

ACCENT PIECES

Popular bedroom decorations for teenage girls are purple table lamps with lamp shades embellished with fluffy feathers that match the color scheme. If there is a chandelier in the room, decorating the mini-shades in a similar style calls for no more than some feather trim and a glue gun.

WINDOW TREATMENTS

Matching curtains will more than likely be included with most purple and lime green comforters and bedding sets. But you can always dress things with decorative trim or by layering some beaded curtain panels over them for a little added sparkle.

THE WALLS

Paint some polka dots or use polka dot wall stickers on the walls to match your kids 'purple and lime green comforters. Mix things up with some stars or flowers to add shapes of interest and add diversity to the green and purple stripes and polka dots.

Those are just a few ideas for decorating your teenage girl’s bedroom with green and purple. I’m sure that you will come up with decorating ideas that are original and exciting on your own. And if you will send us pictures of your purple and lime green bedroom we would love to include them in our picture gallery.

STAR WARS BEDDING

Pottery Barn Kids Star Wars Bedding and Sheets Sets

GO HERE FOR MORE

Do you have a little Princess Leia in your house that has her heart set on Star Wars bedding and don’t know which way to turn? Well, join the club because I’m in the same boat. The reason for my daughter’s obsession with Star Wars is probably due to the fact that my husband is a huge fan to the point that he takes offense at comments on the quality of one of the movies compared to another. In his estimation, they are all fantastic.

He watches the movies over and over with the kids claiming to see something new and different in each and every viewing. I would put my money on my toddler in a Star Wars trivia contest against kids twice her age hands down. I’m proud of her memory skills, but the film has created a bit of a decorating dilemma for me.

She is every bit as dedicated a Star Wars fan as any little boy only she adores Princess Leia rather than Luke Skywalker. When it comes to decorating her room, you can forget Dora and Strawberry Shortcake; this girl wants Star Wars bedding. I'm not sure what to make of a young girl who prefers outer space bedding sets and planet wallies stickers on the walls to more traditional themes for girls. But if that's what she likes I can think of no valid argument as to why she shouldn't have it no matter how difficult it may be for me to find Star Wars bedding to use on a girl's bed. And frankly, I find it sexist that Pottery Barn Kids doesn’t offer so much as a twin comforter set and sheets for kids with a more feminine design. Would it kill them to have a comforter set that showcases the Princess over the guys?

Her birthday is coming up and we wanted to have her bedroom decorated as part of her gift. We had a talk to see if she was sure she wanted to spend that much time surrounded with X-Wings, intergalactic decor and blue Star Wars bedding and sheets. The impression I get is that even if the bedding is dominated by the robots R2-D2, C-3PO and Luke with Princess Leia taking a back seat it’s still better than a set with no Star Wars characters whatsoever. So long as the sheets and comforter display the official Star Wars logo she should be happy as a clam.

RUSTIC BEDROOM DECOR - RUSTIC BEDS and BEDROOM FURNITURE

Rustic Beds Cedar Log Beds

GO HERE FOR MORE

I’m running behind in decorating a friend’s log cabin. She requested unique, rustic bedroom decor to be specific so I felt that I needed something stunning on my design board when I made my presentation. This is not my usual project where the owner picks a theme and we proceed to decorate the bedroom using the existing furniture.

In this project, I am being given the privilege to buy all new rustic bedroom furniture
as well as the bedding and decorations. I was so excited at the prospect that I underestimated the challenges of rustic bedroom design that will blend seamlessly with the adjoining rooms in the
log cabin
. Maybe I never appreciated the fact that the bones were in place when I remodel a room rather than design it from scratch. I vowed early on in my struggles to complete this project to never take those whispers of clues on appropriate colors and style given to me from the existing furnishings for granted ever again.

Then I hit pay dirt. Call it the mother lode of rustic bedroom decor if you will. After cruising through magazines with pictures upon pictures of rustic bedroom designs filled with the same old knotty pine log bedroom furniture I happened on the most fantastic cedar beds. These are not those mass produced red cedar beds that you find in furniture stores; these were rustic bed frames with canopies of twisted limbs that seemed to have grown that way of their own accord over a wide king size mattress. A fitting foundation for the bedding set in my rustic bedroom decor.

I can only imagine that the person lucky enough to sleep in that beautiful, rustic bed would feel they were spending a peaceful night beneath a canopy of trees. I found the beautifully crafted bedroom furniture inspiring and I hope the homeowner will be equally impressed. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that she will order an entire set of rustic bedroom furniture to match and make my job easier so that I progress to the stage that I’m more comfortable with; finding the perfect decorative accessories and rustic bedding sets covered in deer, bear and moose for the cabin.

ROXY BEDDING with REVERSIBLE COMFORTERS - BEDROOM MAKEOVERS IN MINUTES

roxy birdy bedding green and yellow gingham bird comforter

GO HERE FOR MORE!

Reversible comforters are an excellent way to get a lot more bang for your decorating dollar especially when you are buying bedding sets for teenage girls’ bedrooms where a late night cup of cocoa can throw a real monkey wrench into the mainstay of the room’s décor; the comforter or duvet cover. When you give it some thought, all the careful consideration you put into paint color selection, window treatments and floor covers are just one ink spot away from becoming obsolete as that’s all it takes to completely ruin the look of your bed linens.

Unless, of course, you were savvy enough to think ahead and make sure that the bed in a bag or designer bedding collection that your young lady preferred had a reversible comforter that could be flipped over in case the worst case scenario became a harsh reality. If both sides of the bedding set is finished, all that’s needed to fix the mishap is a quick flip of the comforter and perhaps a warning not to drink hot chocolate, apply makeup or use permanent ink while lying in bed.

When it comes to the best decorating ideas for teenage girls’ bedrooms, versatility is always desirable and Roxy bedding with reversible comforters are a super way to get a lot of mileage out of your bedding sets and decorations even if a disastrous stain never comes your way. In today’s market it’s no problem to find cheap bedding and comforters so that stylish bedrooms for teenage girls don’t cost a fortune. But that doesn’t take the sting out of having to change the wall paint colors, curtains and room decorations when the inexpensive bedding sets are damaged or don’t look that cool after one trip through the wash and need to be replaced.
Reversible comforters will give the rest of the bedroom’s decorations a longer lifespan and give mom some time to catch her breath between makeovers.

BEADED CURTAINS for DOORWAYS and WINDOWS

Beaded Curtains for Doorways,Windows and Walls

GO HERE FOR MORE

Beaded curtains for doorways and windows might not be the best choice in window treatments if you want privacy and teenage girls are notorious for wanting the highest levels of privacy in their bedrooms. But beaded doorway curtains are hard to beat for drama and the illusion of mystery.

How many times have you watched a movie where a seance was about to be performed only to have the psychic’s entrance announced with the sound of clicking made by pushing beaded curtains
aside? Apart from being associated with psychics ready to make sense of the contents of a crystal ball, remember the psychedelic days of the 60s and early 70s? What hippie worth his granny glasses would have anything other than a beaded curtain with love beads across the doorway into his or her den decorated with the emblems of peace signs, free love and flower power?

Today’s beaded curtains for doorways are not necessarily to beaded curtain panels made of handmade beads shipped out from a commune. There are plastic, acrylic and glass as well as wooden beaded curtains and window treatments in bright colors like pink and purple or black and pink that coordinate beautifully with modern bedding sets in teenage girls’ bedrooms

You can pick up imported, cheap beaded curtains or choose your panels with luxury in mind made of crystals glass or elaborately carved wooden beads. To shed some light on an otherwise dimly lit room, shimmering mirrors can be strung and used as beaded style curtains that will reflect the sunlight in wonderful prismatic patterns making the space seem cheerful and alive with light.

The way to address the privacy issues that we mentioned earlier in regards to beaded bedroom curtains or doorway curtains is to layer them over something solid. Hang fabric curtain panels, window shades or blinds inside the window frame and install your beaded curtain panels on a rod mounted on the wall over the window frame. During the day you can let the sun stream in through the beads and have all the privacy you could ever want at night.

The same process can be used for the bedroom door. Hang your beads on the side of the doorframe opposite the direction that the door opens. Close the wooden door to keep things private inside the bedroom or leave the door leaving the beaded curtains as the only barrier between the bedroom and rest of the home.

If neither of these ideas for using beaded curtains works for you, perhaps the answer is a beaded wall curtain. In a tropical setting, bamboo beaded curtains, capiz shells or selections that display pictures of dolphins, the ocean or other designs can take the place of framed artwork on the bedroom walls.

For the room where semi-privacy is needed during certain times of the day, the decorative benefits of beaded curtains are hard to beat.

PURPLE and BLACK BEDDING - BOBBY JACK MONKEY and GUITARS

purple and black bedding bobby jack monkey bedding guitar musical notes comforter

GO HERE FOR MORE

Purple and black bedding doesn’t always have to be dark and dramatic. The perfect case in point would be this Bobby Jack monkey bedding set with musical notes and guitars that kids of all ages will find interesting not to mention very entertaining with a picture of a dancing monkey in the center of the comforter.

To keep the bedroom’s décor on the light side, the sheets are covered in purple Fender (they could be Gibson guitars, but I like Stratocasters, so let’s go with Strats) guitars on a background of white cotton. The same fabric can be seen on the back of the comforter.

The pillowcases and shams that match the purple and black bedding set are a virtual playground for our favorite, frisky monkey with the big grin, Bobby Jack. The sham that I like best is black with teal musical notes and words offering encouragement for teens to "Rock On" written in plum that really pops on the black background. The other sham has a picture of Bobby Jack playing his guitar.

If your teenage girl loves monkeys, music, guitars and fun, you can’t go wrong with this set of cute purple and black bedding for girls. You’ve been looking for bedroom decorating ideas where teal blue can be used as an accent color and now’s your chance.

Throw a purple shag rug and some big throw pillows on the floor, hang some beaded curtains and get ready to rock and roll monkey style!

PERSONALIZED NAME WALL DECOR for a KIDS ROOMS

personalized name wall decor for kids room

GO HERE FOR MORE

A personalized name is a cool option for wall decor for kids rooms no matter what their age. But when it comes to tween girls up to college age and beyond you may find that name stencils, decals or stickers are a perfect fit. You can have them customized in whatever font, size or style you need, frame them with soulful sayings and use them in lieu of expensive posters or art prints as frugal bedroom wall decorations.

Haven’t you noticed that once your child was able to write her name in script that she started to cover her belongings with her name. Chances are that if her name contained the letter "I" that it was dotted with hearts, flowers or smiley faces. And even if her name was lacking that particular letter, she managed to decorate the letters in some way. I remember decorating tops, sides and bottoms of each character so completely that even my mother had to study it closely to recognize it.

Once I left the preteen stage behind, I spent my teenage years blowing my name up into graffiti style letters. The lettering for the personalized name that I preferred looked like big, fluffy clouds or balloons that I drew on my book covers and notebooks. But I knew better than to use my art as wall decor in my room. My mother would have been really mad if I had messed up the paint!

Now there are ways of putting your child’s name on bedroom walls that won’t damage the paint. There are hanging wall letters and name decals that at most require a single tack or a sticky, removable hanger to install them wherever you need some personalized name wall decor for your kids room. You can also order custom name stencils that come with the cute hearts and flowers pre-cut and ready to paint if you want something more permanent than a sticker.

Hanging a baby's or child’s personalized name or letters on the bedroom or nursery wall is not just stylish. As funny as it sounds, I believe that it helps to build self esteem by giving them a sense of belonging. We all need our own space and when we are young maybe it makes us feel more secure to see our name on stuff that belongs to us. Surely there’s a reason that teenage girls spend so much time doodling their names on everything they own. We may as well expand the practice to include personalized names for wall decor.
