I just got a bedroom decorating question that had me pondering whether purple paisley or zebra print bedding would be best. By best I mean would the paisley print be just as cool as zebra? I'm really torn here because nobody loves hot pink with zebra print any better than me. But when I decorate a teen girl's room with a set of black and purple bedding, I have to say that the results are pretty satisfying.

I tripped up on this purple bedding for girls and thought how cool it would look in a teal blue and purple bedroom that I'm working on. Then I noticed the satin and I'm second guessing myself as to whether that will fly.

In designing bedrooms for teen girls I've noticed that some like a smooth satiny fabric and some literally despise it. Rarely do you find a girl that can take it or leave it. She's either in love with silk and satin or would rather die than live with it.

Why could this set not have been offered in 100% cotton as well as satin? I just wish that I had a choice because I love the circles, polka dots and the abstract pattern of the purple bedding for girls. But I'm on the fence about the fabric.

When is purple polka dot bedding green? Well, the word is that reactive dyes that were used to give this bold, beautiful comforter set its deep, rich design are reputed to be very healthy, in fact more so than the all-purpose dyes that are more commonly used. This type of dye is not only reported to be healthier, but softer and longer lasting. This Littlest Pet Shop bedding collection may be just what it takes to send your tween or preteen’s heart all aflutter. The first thing that caught my eye was the hot pink and purple color combination with just the tiniest splash of lime green. Before I closed in to give the comforter and pillow shams a closer inspection my thoughts were leaning toward using it in a teenage girl’s decorating project.

However, the monkeys, pink kittens and lime green frogs caused me to do a mental turnaround as these motifs are more often seen as the preferred decor of a young girl rather than a teen. Even if I did my best, I don’t think the pink and white polka dots could camouflage or overpower the other graphics to the point that I could slip it past the eye of an older girl. I can sometimes convince a girl in high school to approve a dark purple Bobby Jack bedding set for use in her room with similar colors to this collection. But the frog and the cute kitty cats pretty much label this bed set as more juvenile than most teens would dream of considering.

So, what happened here is that I found a really cute set of Littlest Pet Shop toddler bedding for a girl and now all that is necessary is to find a little girl whose bedroom is ready for a makeover where I can use this darling bed in a bag that you see in the pictures to decorate.

Will somebody tell me why purple dorm bedding is scarce as an old hen’s teeth? Well, this old hen has just about had it after spending the best part of a day on the prowl for some purple twin bedding with extra long sheets.

Not only must the comforter set and the sheets have to be in what I consider to be a rather odd size, but this teenage girl is on a mission to have “THE” dorm room that all the college coeds are talking about. During our initial meeting where I jot down notes on my client’s color preference and style she said that she did not care if I used a particular theme or color scheme when decorating her dorm room so long as it was something new, exciting and not the boring old stuff that she had in her bedroom at home.

This statement gave me pause because I was aware of the fact that her mother had spent a fortune on this teenage girl’s bedding and bedroom decorations to celebrate her senior year in high school. Not about to let her breeze out of the room leaving me under that kind of pressure, with a long suffering look I begged her to please give me a few ideas to work with. In a rush to get one last trip to the beach in before packing up for college, she left me with instructions to shop for purple dorm bedding.

This doesn’t help much because purple covers quite a lot of territory from purple zebra bedding sets to purple micro suede. As a matter of fact either of these would be the excellent options for purple dorm bedding. The purple zebra print bedding set would hide those stains in the pattern and be easy to wash. The dark purple micro suede would be soft, snuggly and very dramatic and dramatic is right up this college girl’s alley if only I could find something acceptable with extra long sheets!

PURPLE PEACE SIGN COMFORTER SET

I promised you an update on which peace sign comforter set was picked for the bedroom that I was decorating with peace signs. For those of you just tuning in, I mentioned in a post last week that I was on the fence over whether to buy a more expensive bedding set and be conservative with the bedroom’s decorations or to go with a cheap set and go all out on collectible peace signs and decor.

As soon as the teenage girl (and her mother) made a decision I resolved to type out my report. Well, the votes have been counted and after some rough moments behind the scenes (drum roll please), the peace sign bedding set that my clients agreed on was an inexpensive purple bed in a bag set that cost less than $100! Actually because she only needed a twin size set, it cost less than $50! Plus, the collection offered purple lamp shades, pillows and curtains with groovy peace signs on them if she had wanted them although she did not want them as she preferred to do her own thing.

Was this particular purple peace sign bedding set picked because the tween was wise beyond her years and wanted to do her part for the household budget? That would be an ending fit for a fairytale but sadly it would be just as fictitious. She made her decision based on the fact that she wanted a purple bedding set and it just so happened that one of the inexpensive peace sign comforter sets was, you guessed it, purple with black peace signs. Whereas, the expensive organic set was a very practical brown that she found boring in spite of the trendy organic fabric.

So I am now off to shop for vintage decor to complement the purple peace sign comforter set which is going to be no small job. However, there is plenty of cash left over for me to work with. Purple and black bedding doesn’t always have to be dark and dramatic. Not since the movie, Titanic, have I seen such a stir over star crossed lovers. Girls are scrambling for
Twilight bedding
sets and Twilight bedroom merchandise. Trendy bedrooms for teenage girls are my forte, so I found myself on a quest for Twilight themed décor with the following results.



Imagine my delight in finding Twilight Bella Swan bedding. I had expected to find an official collection with pictures of Edward and Bella splashed over the top of the comforter (not that that would be a bad thing). But lo and behold the first collection I happen upon was a smoky shade of plum purple that is occasionally witnessed on special days just after the sun has dipped down below the horizon just seconds before dark. This unique set of Twilight bedding came as a bed in a bag set and could as easily be classified as Asian or oriental bedding.

As wonderful as the Twilight comforter set was, I needed more to achieve stylish Twilight themed bedroom decor. Merchandise used to promote the movie in not one of the most original Twilight bedroom ideas, but perhaps of the best especially since it would be so easy to find not to mention easy to incorporate as the pretty purple plum bedding set gave me leeway to use large movie posters to decorate the walls without making the room seem too busy. In fact, a true fan probably wouldn’t object to some photos of Edward or pictures of Bella off of Twilight to add to the Twilight movie posters
I intended to use.

When I saw the four grand price tag, my slobber pretty much evaporated, but then I saw that for the price (I'm not saying it's not expensive) that you get a hand painted wooden bed that has a faux antique painting on the headboard.

I wish I was a decorator looking for a unique and elegant high end layout for a young girl's room because I would buy this in a heartbeat! As it is, I'm wondering could I possibly buy the purple and green dust ruffle and make it work? It would be a decorating sin to break up this set. Maybe I could sew my own copy of the bedskirt and duvet? Hmmmm....now that's a thought, but it just wouldn't feel the same. The thing to do is take a deep breath, run the credit card and block the price tag out of your mind because I'll be willing to wager that this item will sell out. Sometimes waiting for teen bedding closeouts and discount sales will cause you to miss out on that special look that you need to complete your decor.
